Bid Farewell
Anthony was packing up Reggie’s things one by one when it occurred to him to pack his old things as well. It did belong to the dog after all and he should at least return it to the shelter. Anthony took heavy steps towards the garage, his shoulders slouched in sadness.
Finding The Envelope
Anthony opened the closet and started taking out Reggie’s items one by one. As he picked up the dog bed, an envelope fell from it. A frown made its way to his forehead. He picked up the envelope and scanned it for any address or name, but it had none.
Change In Reggie
He was not sure if he should open it but it did fall from Reggie’s bed, who can’t be interested in its content for sure. Anthony ripped the envelope open to reveal a letter inside it. Strangely enough, when Reggie spotted Anthony going through his things he got excited and ran over to him with his tail wagging.
Reading the Letter
Anthony was surprised at this sudden change in the dog. He sat down and began reading the letter. It read, “To whoever gets my dog: Well, I can’t say that I’m happy you’re reading this, a letter I told the shelter could only be opened by Reggie’s new owner. I’m not even happy writing it.” That’s when it clicked, Anthony remembered the shelter informing him about a letter left for him but he forgot about it, until now.
The Sender
So this letter, as Anthony understood, was from Reggie’s previous owner. He continued reading, “If you’re reading this, it means I just got back from my last car ride with my Lab after dropping him off at the shelter. When I was packing up his things, he knew something was different. It’s like he could sense that something was wrong.”
Getting To Know Reggie
So Reggie was not abandoned, after all, his owner was sad to leave him. “It’s sad for me, but that is why I have decided to write this letter. So let me tell you about my Lab in the hopes that it will help you bond with him and he with you.”
